In the 1970s, Bob was working with a group of professionals in a seminar setting. One of the men in the room was named Don Slovin. He was good at his work. He knew it. Little did he know that he was about to embark on the biggest goal of his entire career — and the year was already half over.
It was July. Bob had done his homework and had looked at the year-to-date results of the top people in the room. Deducing that the second half of the year would most certainly garner similar results, Bob suggested that anyone in the room could double their best year's results by the end of that year — if they made up their mind to do so.
At the break, Don Slovin — one of the most respected veterans in that room — pulled Bob aside and began systematically tearing apart the idea, citing history, numbers and decades of experience as proof that it was impossible. Then Don made one final attempt to dismantle the challenge.
